Yamaha Fj 1100
Yamaha released the FJ1100 for the 1984 and 1985 model years. This class is characterized by maintaining sportiness while integrating more road-friendly riding characteristics, including good maneuverability and long-distance comfort, such as a more upright seat configuration designed to reduce back and fairing strain. Great for reducing fatigue from wind resistance. Emphasis is placed on utility and sport balance, not pure performance orientation. The engine was noticeably narrower than many of its contemporaries, Yamaha achieved this by placing the alternator behind the cylinder instead of its more normal position at the end of the crankshaft.
Yamaha Fj 1200
In 1986 Yamaha decided to upgrade the Yamaha FJ1100 with a slight increase in engine capacity displacement and adding an improved suspension and other components. The result is the FJ1200. They also changed the color options with the next model, but not significantly. Peak power output increases slightly to 130 bhp (97 kW) from the mid-torque FJ1100s 125 bhp (93 kW). Yamaha FJ1200 is produced in three main variants in a row (1TX, 3CV and 3XW) each of which the latest version benefited from improved bodywork, front and rear suspension components, and the addition of an optional version equipped with ABS yamaha FJ1200A from 1991 to 1996 when Yamaha discontinued FJ1200 in UK. This model was discontinued in the United States in 1993. Market competitors during this year of production include the BMW K100RS and Suzuki 1100 Katana, and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10.
Yamaha Fj1200 Mesin Engine
The Yamaha FJ1200 uses an in-line, air-cooled four-cylinder layout. Sixteen valves are operated by double overhead camshafts driven by chains; valve clearance is adjusted using a shim. Four constant speed carburetors are mounted in the bank behind the cylinders and feed each cylinder via a short intake manifold. The four exhaust pipes join the box under the engine where the gas is divided to exit through two mufflers. The crankshaft is directed directly into the clutch, no balancing shaft is used. Start with just an electric starter. Lubrication is wet sump using a trochoid pump; Radiator oil helps cooling. Both the yamaha FJ1100 and yamaha FJ1200 are equipped with an auxiliary fuel vapor recovery system to comply with California emission regulations.

The FJ1200 uses a five-speed constant mesh sequential close-ratio manual gearbox. The clutch is a wet multi-disc diaphragm spring type and is hydraulically operated. The final actuator is with the chain O-ring and sprocket.
The frame of the Yamaha FJ1200 is made of a grid section and uses a layout of the perimeter, fairing and upper rear using a separate cylindrical tube sub-frame. The rear shock absorbers are located vertically behind the engine and are connected to a rocker arm made of extruded aluminum alloy later 3XW models had a chain swing arm via multiple forged aluminum swingarms. The 17-inch front wheel holds 41 mm oil-immersed springs and forks. The early FJ1100 and FJ1200 models had an adjustable anti-dive unit and smaller 16-inch wheels. The early FJ1100 and FJ1200 used dual ventilated disc brakes for the front wheels with single ventilated discs at the rear. The yamaha FJ1200, 3CV & 3XW models, sport solid front discs but retain rear ventilated discs, the front brake calipers have been upgraded to a four-piston design. An anti-lock braking system is used on the FJ1200A. Full fairing protects the rider, various windshield heights are still available as an option.
Yamaha Fj 1200 Electrical System
The FJ1200 has a standard 12 volt power system. The alternator and starter motor are mounted behind the cylinder. A Nippondenso Transistor Controlled Ignition (TCI) is used in conjunction with the two coils. A Yamaha self-cancelling indicator unit is used and a variable resistance measurement system is used to monitor the engine oil level with an associated warning light. A large fuel gauge display is provided as is a low fuel level warning light. A digital clock is also installed. The safety feature on the yamaha FJ1200 is that the engine ignition is interrupted if first gear is selected with a side-stand down, this is now common on modern motorcycles.
