2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 Gt | First Look Review And Specs
2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT | First Look Reviews and specs. This is the 2022 Yamaha Tracer 900GT which will show the model features and advantages in it. . While the heated grip is good and the TFT dashboard is visually pleasing when compared to the motorcycle’s LCD screen, it’s the suspension that really sets the GT aside as it overcomes the main faults of the standard Tracer 900.
The extra calm and improved ride quality it provides gives the GT the impression of a smoother product, a sensation that is further enhanced by the upgraded specs. If you own a Tracer 900, and love it, the GT is a significant leap forward in ride, quality and specs and well worth upgrading. During 2018, Alison Silcox of MCN ran the Yamaha Tracer 900GT as a long-term test bike for a year.
There are many motorcycles that, on paper, look perfect. Just ride a bike and apply a little critical thinking and you can start to find the things you like and the things you don’t like in each offer. Finally, you compile a list of the best aspects of each, mentally combining them into one bike that, if anything, would have no equal. For me, that bike could be a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT.
Years ago Triumph emailed existing Street Triple owners like myself a survey in an attempt to find what features and technology we would like them to focus on for future versions of our bikes. Many of the items they proposed in that survey made it into the current 765cc Street Triples, but one major variant never materialized. I’ve always believed that my Street Triple would be perfect with a hard, half-fairing small suitcase. Triumph teased the idea in a survey, but it seems that more power and gadgets are more appealing to other respondents.
Vehicle & Brake Quality
The upgraded KYB suspension supports the bike better, eliminating most of the wet sensation you get on the standard model with just enough adjustment to fine-tune any remaining wobble. You can see the difference through the low-speed corners where the standard bike fork dives under the brakes before bouncing back when you release the stopper, causing the rear to squat and the bike to widen, a sensation much less noticeable in the GT. The new seats are beautiful and comfortable and the updated riding position is relaxed.
2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 Gt Engine
The Yamaha Tracer 9 Gt has the same motor as the MT-09, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Packed full of grunts, the 847cc triple has good throttle response as well as a bit of oomph if you want to open it up and let it spin. You get a reliable clutch as standard and the GT version even adds a quickshifter, which is nice and slick to operate. The engine is the main selling point of the MT range and still delivers in this sport tourer.
Reliability & Build Quality
The tracker may be built on a budget, but that doesn’t present itself in build quality and owners report older models are well done and reliable. There should be no gremlin to worry about other than a few fasteners rusting if the bike is used in winter and not treated with anti-corrosion spray. We currently have eight Yamaha Tracer 900GT owner reviews on the site, with an overall score of 4 out of 5 stars.
Value Vs Rivals
Tracer has always represented great value for money and the GT version continues this theme. You get an extra stack for little more than a stock bike and aside from the lack of ABS/TC cornering, there’s not much missing in its spec sheet. Well, apart from a working screen.
At £1400 more than the Tracer 900, the GT gets a fully adjustable fork, shocks with remote preload adjuster, color-matched panniers, colorful dashboard, heated grips, cruise control and quickshifter. And that’s on top of the two-stage traction control, ABS, and three power modes included with the built-in bike as well as the new 2018 display, built-in pannier mount, and center mount. That’s not bad at all for £10,792.
Standard panniers on the Yamaha Tracer 900GT
The 22 liter Pannier itself is color matched, has a collapsible handle, and an ignition key which adds to the convenience. They sit close and tight on the engine via integrated hangers on the sub-frame which is the way panniers should be. This means that when full, the extra weight is kept as close to the centerline of the engine as possible rather than hanging inches from the bike on the external frame and turning it into a boat once loaded.
Yamaha Tracer 900GT brakes
Both models get a pair of cak rotor rotors 298mm ram and four-piston radial calipers. They performed flawlessly during my time on the bike once I adjusted the levers to suit my preferences. Powerful, progressive, and backed by a decent ABS system, they get a lot of attention from me.
