Yamaha XSR900 Abarth 2024 Specs. Yamaha has had the throttle embedded in new model builds for the last few years. The Bolt, C-Spec, FZ-09, FJ-09, XSR900, FZ-07, and the new YZF-R1 are all good if not great bikes. They just announced the FZ-10 is coming to America, as well as the addition of the SCR950 to its lineup, and we’re hoping to see a new YZF-R6 this year alongside whatever they’re dreaming of. Seriously, I don’t think they let their development team eat or sleep.

I recently had the opportunity to do a press launch for the new Yamaha XSR900. A few weeks later, I had to make a quick trip to San Francisco and the XSR900 seemed the most comfortable to ride, we really hope the 2022 Yamaha Xsr900 impresses big bike lovers even more.

I’ve written about it a few times now and, every time , I found the article coming off quite positive. Sometimes it was even more positive than I originally intended it to be but, when I went back and looked to try and edit my thoughts, I couldn’t find anything wrong with how I felt about it.

And then I realized what the problem was: it was too much. The XSR is billed as this around town/fun bike, but it’s actually a nicer naked sportbike to look at than most. It’s the same reason I’ve always been attracted to the FZ-07 over the FZ-09 (and why several friends have thanked me months after talking them into buying the 07 instead of the 09). This doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be, but it does mean that I don’t think it’s the bike you want.

While the XSR900 is excellent, the bike you really want is the Yamaha XSR700 – a bike that Yamaha still claims has no plans to take it Stateside. Because that’s just the right amount of bike for the riding position and the way most people looking to buy this bike want to ride.

Around town, you feel the bike’s extra weight (compared to the FZ-07) and, while totally manageable, the power the bike is capable of is never far from the forefront of your attention. On a triple, you spend time thinking about moderation. With twins, you spend time figuring out how to whip them. Which of them sounds like a more enjoyable trip

Yamaha not only brought the XSR900 Stateside instead of the XSR700 but then, when looking for a bike to base their SCR “scrambler”, they abandoned it AGAIN. Instead, they opted to use the guts of the Yamaha (formerly Star) Bolt. Because the big, slow 942cc V-twin bike and 547 pounds is really a recipe for a great scrambler. Does the FZ-07/XSR700 say anything meaningful about the brass there at Yamaha? Making nasty jokes at the dinner table? Where’s the love?

When I got home from the launch of the XSR900, a friend who had been eyeing it called to ask what I thought about it. “Great,” I told him. “Much better. They fixed a lot of the things they messed up with the FZ-09 when they released it and it was very capable. But all that really made me want to ride was the XSR700.”

Bikes like these are meant to be light, light, and fun. They have to be small, they have to ride small, and they have to encourage you to jump a curb or two—not doing a 130 on the freeway and worrying about keeping the front end down.

Let me be clear, this doesn’t mean the XSR900 (or FZ-09) is a bad bike. They’re actually pretty good. But, for all of you asking “XSR900 or classic Ducati Scrambler/Triumph?” —I would choose Ducati or Triumph every time. If you’re shopping for a used KTM Super Duke, Ducati Monster, Kawasaki Z800/Z1000, Suzuki GSX-S750/1000 or some other naked sportbike I would really recommend the XSR900 as a great option that gives you better performance than the other Japanese options and more affordable and reliable than European ones. But, but. If you’re looking to do things around town, look stylish, and have fun — there’s really no better way to go than the Ducati Scrambler or XSR700.
